Race for the Cure®

National Race Series

The Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. In the coming year, races will be held in more than 100 U.S cities and three foreign countries with over 1.3 million participants expected.

Proceeds from the Komen Race for the Cure® Series help fund important breast cancer research as well as breast health initiatives on a local level. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds remain in the local community where the Race is held, helping to support breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for the medically underserved. These programs are funded based upon a special needs assessment survey performed by each Komen Affiliate.

A minimum of 25 percent of Race proceeds helps fund breast cancer research and project grants awarded through Komen Foundation Headquarters.

Komen Race for the CureŽ is about much more than just running a 5K. It is about real people, with real faces and real names. For many people Komen Race for the Cure® is an act of support, love, and commitment to someone who has battled breast cancer.

The Race attracts men, women and children of all ages and athletic abilities. It is an emotional and exhilarating event that gives women and their families an opportunity to support the fight against breast cancer in their communities, to remember those who have lost the battle, and to celebrate those who are surviving.

The Southwest Michigan Affiliate usually sends at least one survivor free of charge each year to attend and participate in the Komen National Race. Some of the past survivors who have represented the Affiliate at the National Race have been Toni Freed, Dolores Rawlings, Patricia MacLeod, Carolyn Curtis, Barbara Armstrong, and Lynn Page.

Breast Cancer 3-Day® Events

Changing lives. The Breast Cancer 3-Day.

The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk for women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight against breast cancer. Participants walk 60 miles in three days, help raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research and patient support programs and are part of something way bigger than themselves.

Along the way, they get all the support they need for training and fundraising. And each night of the event, walkers experience an incredible mobile city that’s more than just sleeping tents and warm showers, where they can eat, relax and renew their spirit with their fellow walkers.
